KIPA Executive Board Members 2024

Know More About our Members:

  • I am a postdoctoral researcher working in the field of artificial intelligence and digital pathology for precision medicine at the Department of Medical Epidemiology and Biostatistics at Karolinska Institute. My expertise is computer vision and unsupervised machine learning which I use to help us understand breast cancer pathology images to aid in selecting adequate treatment plans. As the president of KIPA, my mission is to provide all KI postdocs with a platform that they can use to improve their careers, work environment, living situation, and social life. My personal goal is to help postdocs maximize their potential during their time at Karolinska. Feel free to email me if you need anything or just want to talk. When I am not in the lab you can find me on the tennis courts or at the BBQ grill.

  • I am a postdoctoral researcher at the Aging Research Center since September 2023. I joined KIPA in April 2024 and my role as secretary is to assist the Chair and Vice-Chairs and to take care of organizational matters. In my job, I study the interrelations between neuroimaging, cognitive and olfactory markers in normal aging and dementia. Previously, I obtained a doctoral degree in Neurosciences at the University of Barcelona. My doctoral studies were focused on the impact of sleep disturbances and biological sex on Parkinson's disease brain atrophy and cognitive phenotypes.

  • I began my post-doc at the Department of Neuro in mid 2022 and transitioned to the Department of Women’s and Children’s Health in June 2024. My research focuses on understanding the role of biological, genetic, and environmental risk factors associated with ADHD in children. Additionally, I am passionate about studying brain development and the well-being of 'tiny babies.' In 2023, I joined KIPA, where I serve as treasurer, ensuring the KIPA's financial responsibility.

My background is in Statistics, that I formed in Italy where I am originally from. I am the new vice-chair of the Career Development team. My task is with the other members to help postdocs (but not only) moving forward in their professional career, either inside or outside the academia. Thus, we coordinate with the Career Service Office at KI to organize one event per month (from September to June) that we called "Career Development brunch events series" which brings together people from the KI community and the private sector.

  • Anna Bergonzini

I joined Karolinska as a postdoc in October 2023. My current project investigates the host immune response to Group A Streptococcus infection.

My mission as a Vice Chair for Community Building is to organize and promote events which will make the postdoc community to gather together! If you recently moved to Sweden, it might be difficult to get to know new people and make new friends, and we want to help you in breaking the ice! The work-life balance is an essential pillar, and we want to make your experience in Stockholm the most enjoyable!

    Silvia Angori:

I have been a postdoctoral researcher at the Department of Oncology-Pathology since January 2023. I am a biotechnologist by training, and cancer biology has always been my passion in research. As the Vice Chair for Community Building, my role is to bring together new and existing KI postdocs to create a strong community where we can support each other and, of course, have a lot of fun! I strongly believe that forming new connections and friendships when moving to a new country is crucial for a successful postdoc experience and to make this period of your life memorable.
